Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced midwives to join the team on Maternity Inpatient Wards. The successful candidate will have a passion for creating an environment that will promote high quality care, whilst seeking to improve patient safety and in doing so facilitating a positive patient experience in the antenatal and postnatal setting.
Main duties of the job
Josephine Barnes and Ann Stewart wards have a total of 47 beds, caring for high risk antenatal and postnatal women. It is a fast paced environment staffed by two other Band 7's, a core and rotational team of enthusiastic staff who show commitment to prioritising care whilst working in partnership with women and the wider team.
Visibility on the wards is essential; this will be achieved by working together ensuring there is clinical leadership across all days of the week. As the postnatal lead you will be responsible for postnatal transformation programme initiative's such "length of stay"
You will be required to exhibit leadership behaviours that demonstrate respect, resilience, trust and energy, positively impacting on the culture of the workforce, leading to a happy workplace.

- To maintain a high profile and be seen to be in charge and fulfil management and clinical responsibilities to patients.
- To ensure that optimal use is made of available resources to provide appropriate and effective cover over any 24-hour period.
- To reassess the staffing rotas in the light of unexpected absences and adjust accordingly to meet the needs of the service.
- To escalate to midwifery management team about activity in the Unit and staffing levels and to ensure that appropriate manpower data is available on an ongoing basis.
- To assist in orientation programmes and familiarise staff with the organisational and clinical demands of inpatient services.
- To ensure that all medical and midwifery students are working in a positive learning environment.
- To carry out on behalf of the HMS, annual staff appraisals of junior midwives and maternity support workers.
- To create and maintain an effective communication system between all staff groups working in maternity services and to ensure that a positive working environment is achieved.
