Job summary

Staff Nurse Intensive Care, Band 5The Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Intensive Care Units comprises of a combination of level two, level three and Burns intensive care beds on the Chelsea and Westminster site.We care for a broad range of critically ill patients within primary nursing teams. We offer a friendly and supportive working environment where education is seen as a priority. We would like you to join our team to provide excellent, compassionate care to all our critically ill patients and their families. We would like to recruit nurses with experience of working within an acute hospital setting. Don't worry if you haven't got previous intensive care experience, as all nurses new to ICU will join our Foundations of Critical Care Course, which will provide you with the necessary skills to get you established as an intensive care nurse. You will also receive an exceptional induction and orientation programme.The unit has recently undergone an extensive refurbishment and expansion creating a state of the art Intensive Care Unit.

Main duties of the job

  • The Staff Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of high quality patient care, whilst working in close co-operation and collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Provide high quality clinical care to patients, in line with the Trust values and in accordance with professional regulations. Accept delegated responsibility for specific activities/areas from the senior nurse in charge
  • Work in line with Trust policies, objectives, protocols and local guidelines, whilst also being aware of the importance of their role in supporting members of the team, and always adhering to the Trust values, and in accordance with NMC regulations.
  • Work autonomously and with others to always deliver high standards of care to patients and their careers, autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Communicate in line with Trust values, to patients, careers and staff at all times.
  • Take every opportunity to continue to develop, practice and expand their own general and specialist nursing skills.
  • Maintain high standards of professional and ethical responsibility, and accountability and be aware of the medico-legal aspects of nursing, in line with professional, regulating and local guidance.
