Job summary

We have twelve month fixed term posts to offer. These posts will be based in Respiratory Medicine at West Middlesex Hospital, Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust.

The main parts of the post involve the care of inpatients under the relevant medical specialty, general and acute medicine oncalls (posts with no oncalls can also be considered), working in clinic and outpatients, and performing the regular functions of a Medical Registrar.

You will be part of a Consultant led team of other registrars and junior doctors and participate in daily Board rounds. There will be consultant ward rounds of new patients, with SpR led ward rounds of existing patients. There may be opportunity for interested individuals to carry out supervised outpatient clinics and MDTs. The post holder will participate in the General Medical on calls or Acute Medical on calls at SpR level. Leave will be accommodated and you will have time to develop a specialist interest.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will undertake day-to-day clinical duties across respiratory wards, acute medical areas, and outpatient settings. This includes reviewing new admissions, managing deteriorating patients, arranging investigations, liaising with consultants, and ensuring timely escalation of care. The fellow will participate in scheduled ward rounds, MDT meetings, and specialist clinics, contributing to holistic patient management. Procedural duties may include pleural interventions and assisting with bronchoscopy depending on experience and training opportunities.The role requires effective communication with patients, families, and colleagues, as well as active involvement in discharge planning and coordination with community respiratory services. The fellow will contribute to departmental teaching, attend educational sessions, and participate in audit or QI projects. Depending on the rota, the post may include out-of-hours work to support the acute medical take or respiratory on-call service.
