Job summary
The Senior Site Sister/Charge nurse will be responsible for all clinical areas out of hours (predominately nights and late on weekends with flexibility) and give the site team the support they require. Provide senior leadership to maintain high standards of safe and effective care and be accountable for auditing those standards. To assure staff allocation is safe, lead in providing high levels of positive patient experience, deliver safe clinical practice and challenge decisions as a senior leader. To be aware of the Care Quality Commission and work with the multi-disciplinary team ensuring that these standards of care are maintained.
The post holder will aid the site manager with patient placement (during periods of high service demand). They will work closely with the site team in achieving operational targets.
They will be a visible senior presence in the hospital, providing continuous clinical supervision to junior staff as well as managerial support in the management of difficult situations and patient care concerns.
Main duties of the job
Working closely with the Centre for Professional Learning and Clinical Skills Teams to provide teaching/learning support in agreed areas of clinical expertise in collaboration with ward managers. The post holder will be responsible for providing leadership and professional development for the nursing and support workers within clinical areas.
The SSS is responsible for area specific quality reviews out of hours which will help the Trust monitor the Quality priorities 2023/24 and maintain delivery of standards.

Initiate operational Trust plans to provide suitable co-horting/isolation of patients with infectious disease.
Monitor against key performance indicators as per Trust policy and prioritise safe staffing in all areas with the use of SafeCare. This resource will aid the post holder the overview of the hospital and lead with the allocation of skilled nursing workforce.
To liaise with staff bank and Care Providers to enable them to prioritise outstanding shifts based on current and forecasted activity and acuity.
Where clinical (e.g. medicine, therapy, nursing) reduced levels of staffing are identified, be responsible to discuss with consultant (or similar) to understand and challenge the need for locum cover.
To work within financial requirements of Divisions
Out of hours, liaise with approved medical locum agencies to obtain cover and ensure clinical sign off in line with Trust process
Sign worked off locum shifts according to Trust financial instruction, utilising Patchwork
To participate in direct patient care. To be trained, skilled and demonstrate competence in key nursing interventions this will include cannulation, phlebotomy, catheterisation (male and female), management of tracheostomy, management of NIV including interpretation of ABG / VBG and IV drug administration, recognition of the deteriorating adult and appropriate first line interventions and escalation (this is not an exhaustive list).
Lead the collation and analysis of information regarding clinical workload of the wider Hospital at Night team. Highlighting, appropriate escalation and reporting (via Datix) (on a shift by shift basis) any unmet clinical need at night.
To adhere at all times to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct, and any other NMC guidelines and regulations.
