Job summary

The post holder will provide specialist nursing care, advice and support for people with Tuberculosis. This will involve autonomously managing a case load of patients with Tuberculosis in nurse led outpatient clinics with direct clinical supervision from the senior TB Nurse Specialists. The post holder will, undertake all relevant forms of nursing care and patient management, supported by evidence based practice, liaising with the multi-disciplinary team, with the objective of providing high quality, safe nursing care. The post holder must always act in an accountable manner, adhering to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and Trust polices.

Main duties of the job

Undertake nurse led clinics for patients with TB under the supervision of the senior TB Nurse specialists.

o Develop skills to provide specialist care (assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation) within defined guidelines and protocols

o Referring to other disciplines and agencies

o Ordering and interpreting relevant tests and investigations

Provide expert care and advice to individual patients with TB and their families. Be responsible for the assessment of patient care, and the planning, implementation and evaluation of that care.

Contribute to the future development of TB services within the Hospital and the Community services.

Work within agreed protocols for managing the care of TB patients, contacts of TB patients and BCG vaccination patients.

Act as case manager to allocated TB patients, reporting findings and liaising with the Respiratory Physicians.

Recognise problems in relation to failing treatment and seek assistance to solve them.

Provide advice and guidance to patients and hospital staff regarding TB and related issues. Maintain accurate and timely patient records worthy of medico-legal scrutiny.

Actively participate in providing a high standard of service.

Provide a patient focused nursing service and establish effective partnerships with patient and family within competency level.
