Job summary
SCAD (Spontaneous coronary Artery Dissection) is a rare disease that predominantly affects young and healthy women with potentially devastating outcomes. Patients are referred from multiple sources including hospitals, clinicians, Gp's and allied health care.
The clinic has over 2000 patients, and gets roughly 10 new referrals per week from various referral sources. There is constant requests from other clinicians to review or answer questions regarding medical needs of SCAD patients. There is a 10 % risk of recurrence. Many patients will have other associated conditions and findings with SCAD.
Many patients will contact the SCAD clinic to understand the referral pathway. Due to overwhelming number of referrals the waiting time is very long.
The SCAD clinic is a national clinic that has been almost established for 8 years at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.
The post holder will be a member of the Cardiology Admin Services team that is specifically dedicated to supporting the streamlined pathway of SCAD patients though the Trust.
The main purpose of the SCAD Co-ordinator role is to coordinate the SCAD clinic and SCAD patient pathways ensuring all patients are seen in timely manner, followed up and appropriately referred for investigations and then on to other specialist clinics if needed. SCAD patients have complex care and more specialist needs that requires prioritisation and management.
Main duties of the job
Pre clinic, the coordinator is requested to gather all the relevant medical, clinic, and imaging data for each patient so it can be reviewed pre clinic. Most patients will require further imaging and follow up after their initial consult which will require coordination and arranging follow up when investigations are completed in timely manner.
SCAD clinic sends imaging and clinical data to the EORP study. We also have the opportunity to recruit into the FMD registry and SCAD UK research .
Excellent organisational and communication skills and a good attention for detail are key requisites for the role.
The post holder will also be responsible to support the regular Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings for a number of specialties. This will involve working in close liaison with clinical teams such as the vascular, neurosurgical, renal to ensure that all relevant information is available for these meetings in order to allow the efficient planning of treatment for patients with SCAD.
