Job summary
The ambulatory emergency care (AEC) unit provides same day emergency care for patients attending on a variety of different pathways of care (ie early supported discharge, GP referrals, hot clinic follow up or directly from the emergency department and LAS) and ensures that they receive high quality, patient centred care.The post holder will be responsible for the safe and efficient management of the unit, working alongside colleagues from across the MDT to ensure that patients are seen and treated in accordance with best practice guidance and in line with local and national priorities for Same Day Emergency Care.The post holder will support staff on the unit by providing clinical supervision and guidance and will act as the clinical expert in nursing care for patients on the unit. This includes patients attending from the ED, for emergent follow up in clinic and for a variety of medical day case investigations and treatments.
Main duties of the job
Maintaining high standards of patients care throughout the patient's journey.
To acquire basic and advanced nursing skills for acute medical services.
To mentor and assess student nurses
To coordinate and facilitate the effective running of the unit at all times and be able to deputize for the ward manager in her absence.
Ensure all activity is recorded on the electronic patient tracking in a timely manner
To be competent in nursing skills for in acute medicine/ ambulatory care, including advanced life support and other forms of advanced care.
To give advice and clinical support to other areas within unit and medical day unit as required.
Be proactively involved in the development of competency standards, protocols, PGDs, guidelines and unified records.
Keep up to date with clinical developments within acute medicine.
