For our Haematology Clinical Nurse Specialist we are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic registered nurse, with at least 3 years relevant experience to join the Haematology Cancer Nursing team.
The clinical nurse specialist functions within a field of practice that focuses on the needs of the patient and encompasses interaction with others in delivering nursing, health and social care.
The CNS promotes excellence in nursing practice through the integration of expert clinical practice, education, consultancy, acting as a resource and commitment to nursing research.
This role give the applicant the opportunity to work in a Level II clinical haematology service providing complex chemotherapy (excluding haematopoeitic stem cell transplant) to a diverse population in West London. This role will work alongside the current Haematology/HIV CNS but will encompass HIV negative cancer patients only (although the opportunity for cross cover is subject to discussion). The dedicated team of consultants manage a complex group of patients with disease including myeloma, acute leukaemia, lymphoma and MDS. High dose salvage chemotherapy and BITE immunotherapy is administered at this site in a dedicated haemato-oncology facility. Ideally the applicant will have completed some haemato-oncology training and have expertise in the area of clinical haematology
Main duties of the job
- Ensure provision of chemotherapy for haemato-oncology patients as well as other inpatient and day ward based treatments .management. There is an expectation that the post-holder will spend time working clinically.
- Act as a Specialty Advisor giving evidence based advice to all staff in matters relating to the care of patients with haematological disease
- Act as key worker for patients with haematological disease.
- Provide evidence based information and advice for patients and their carers on all aspects of their diagnosis.
- Co-ordination of the patient pathway and a core member of the multidisciplinary team.
- Promote effective communication with nursing team, patients, relatives and other health care professionals.
- Support the AOS service
- To provide expert nursing advice to patients with Haematological malignancies and their families throughout diagnosis, assessing their needs and providing information as required.
- To liaise with all relevant members of the multidisciplinary team in the care and support of individual patients including GPs
- Where appropriate hold a nurse led clinic including the development of written protocols based on national standards'
- To offer advice and support on pain and symptom control liaising with the Specialist palliative care team.
- Responsible for implementing the personailsed care program for Haematology patients including completing of HNA's assisting with health and well-being events and treatment summaries where appropriate.
