Job summary
As a Trainee Medical Photographer you will be shadowing Medical Photographers and photographing patients either in the studio, on wards, and other clinical settings. You will be expected to produce high quality images that can be utilised for patients' medical records, for teaching/education, and publishing. The role may also include the production of graphic design and video services in support ofthe Trust's aims and objectives, including patient care, research, education and corporate communications. As part of the role, you can enrol on a graduate clinical photography qualification, so that you are able to become registered with the Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS) oncompletion of the course.
The team comprises of a Medical Photography Manager, a Senior Medical Photographer, and three Medical Photographers. It is an energetic and friendly department which requires from the applicant a commitment, compassion, and desire to continually learn. We are looking for a candidate who will work as an individual and also collaboratively as part of the wider team to implement new processes and protocols for the better of patient care and the efficiency of the department. Main duties of the job
- To shadow Medical Photographers and also participate in all aspects of clinical and scientificphotography of adults and children in a variety of locations including studio, ward, clinic,operating theatre, and mortuary.
- Responsible for undertaking training in all aspects of medical photography for diagnosis, caserecords, education, research, and publication across a wide range of specialities anddisciplines.
- There is an expectation that the Trainee will enrol on a graduate clinical photography qualification, so that they are able to become registered with the Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS) on completion of the course.
- With assistance from Medical Photographers, to ensure a high level of photographic quality so that images are medically and legally valuable i.e. confidence with studio lighting, capturing accurate exposures, correct colour balancing, etc.
- With assistance from Medical Photographers, to utilise the most appropriate photographicand lighting techniques to best demonstrate the patient's condition i.e. flat lighting and crosslighting.
- To complete administrative tasks, booking jobs, assisting with patient's request, etc.

- To photograph medicolegal clients to the specifications of the requesting legal firm e.g. usingmeasurements, specific lighting techniques, etc. Also, ensuring images are captured withaccuracy and are a true likeness to the presented condition.
- To participate in video production assignments including preplanning, production, filming,editing, and postproduction.
- To competently and creatively handle general photographic assignments e.g. PR photography,still life, portraiture, and other forms of general photography.
- Meet the needs of outpatient work including undertaking dental/intraoral photography withinHealth and Safety requirements e.g. safe insertion of glass mirrors/retractors and use ofappropriate sterilisation techniques.
- Coordinate with ward staff so that inpatients are prepared and dressings removed inadvance of attending the ward.
- Provide a service in sometimes difficult and distressing circumstances, such as trauma, burns,terminally ill patients, sexual or physical abuse, still births, specimens, and postmortemexaminations.
- When qualified and AHCS registered, participate in Teledermatology clinics, providing anaccurate, efficient, and timely photographic service for the newly implemented patientpathway cancer referral system.
- To keep abreast of technological development and modern trends in clinical, scientific, andtechnical photography.
- To assist in the implementation of new technologies and techniques as appropriate. Forexample looking at how certain patient conditions can be photographed/lit in new andinnovative ways.
