Chelsea and Westminster NHS foundation trust is looking for a passionate and highly motivated dietitian for a new to establishment role.
This post will be responsible for undertaking a combined specialist acute gastroenterology role in clinical nutrition and around 0.4WTE of diabetes.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide a service to adult gastroenterology/ endocrine inpatient wards (0.6WTE), supporting patients with often complex acute and chronic conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, liver disease, short bowel syndrome, malabsorptive conditions to meet their nutritional goals. Gastro/nutrition support inpatient experience is therefore essential.
Additionally the role will:
Cover areas such as liver shrinkage for pre op Cholecystectomy and post op upper GI texture graduation
Provide support to other areas of the Service who require specialist input /advice from the gastroenterology dietitians
Additional remit will cover initial education of newly diagnosed Type 1 diabetes inpatients as required, additionally the role will have around 2 half day (0.2WTE) outpatient diabetes clinics . Diabetes experience desirable but not essential as we would be willing to train the successful candidate as required.
Ideally the candidate should have some prior experience in TPN as while where is no immediate impetus for them to be on the PN rotation the ability to cover as required would be useful.
The Chelsea and Westminster dietitians have developed very good relationships with the gastroenterology consultants who are keen on expanding the dietetic clinical remit and responsibility's, as such there is an expectation to participate and contribute to the multidisciplinary planning of patient care.

Gastroenterology Specialist (0.6 to 0.65 WTE)
- Assess and provide evidence-based dietary advice and interventions to patients with complex acute and chronic gastroenterological conditions, including Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), liver disease, short bowel syndrome, and malabsorptive conditions to meet nutrition goals.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop comprehensive care plans and ensure the best possible patient outcomes.
- Participate in patient education and group sessions to promote dietary self-management.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest research and developments in gastroenterology nutrition.
Diabetes Specialist (0.35 to 0.4 WTE):
- Manage and support patients with diabetes through individualized nutrition plans, including Type 1, Type 2, and gestational diabetes.
- Work closely with the Diabetes care team to provide expert dietary advice and contribute to diabetes care initiatives.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Dietetics.
- Registered Dietitian with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Proven experience in Gastroenterology inpatients and ideally Diabetes care.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
