Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

Consultant Interventional Radiologist

The closing date is 27 April 2026

Job summary

This is a consultant appointment for a radiologist with subspecialty training in interventional radiology. Oncological intervention or paediatric IR skills would be a bonus.

The post will be cross site cover, based at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West-Middlesex University Hospital.

The successful candidate will supervise interventional lists covering procedures such as US/CT guided biopsy and drainage procedures, venous access, urological and HPB intervention. There is also the possibility to perform and further develop more subspecialist work such as PCNL, embolization of prostate / uterine / testicular embolisation, paediatric AVM therapy, ablation of liver and lung lesions, MSK intervention.

At present there is no dedicated peripheral vascular intervention, however, this will change in the near future. The successful candidate may wish to pursue this. Development of new techniques will be encouraged and experience in paediatric intervention would be advantageous.

AAC Assessment and Panel: 11th June 2026 (AM and PM)

Main duties of the job

The applicant should be on the Specialist register of the GMC and be a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists or equivalent.

The new appointee will be expected to participate in the IR on call rota covering the Chelsea and Westminster, Royal Marsden and Royal Brompton Hospitals. On call frequency will be 1:8 weeks / year.

In addition, there may be emergency situations when attendance outside routine hours is required.

Provision of IR at the West Middlesex site is currently limited, therefore emergency cases are transferred to Chelsea & Westminster Hospital. There are early plans to expand IR at West Middlesex with installation of a new IR suite in the coming years.

The job plan will include sessions dedicated to general and cross sectional reporting so it would be essential for the prospective candidate to be able to report body CT and MRI.

The 10 PA contract comprises 8.5 DCC sessions and 1.5 SPA session. This may be subject to change to accommodate any on call requirements in the near future.

The proposed job plan will be subject to change to allow for any future extended 7-day service requirement and provision of services across the entire Trust.

The successful candidate will be expected to partake in local MDT's.

Each Consultant has access to a dedicated PACS reporting station, a PC and a laptop for remote image viewing when on call.
