Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join the Trust's costing team as a Trainee Costing Analyst. The post holder will combine on the job learning and development while playing a key role in developing the Trust's existing Patient Level Costing (PLICS) Model/Service Line reporting.

You will work with key stakeholders across the trust to use PLICs/SLR to further drive efficiency and support patient care. The post holder will support the development of the costing model in line with NHS England's Approved Costing guidance. In addition to SLR the post holder will support the Trust's annual National Cost Collection return and other mandatory cost submissions.

- Knowledge of NHS Finance

- Ability to handle large datasets and working with systems

For those completing a recognised professional Accountancy Qualification a study package is available.

Main duties of the job

Assist the Costing Analyst and the Head of Costing in the timely and accurate production of the Trust's Patient Level Costing and Service Line Reporting (SLR). Work with the Costing Analyst to maintain the Trust's Patient Level Costing system.

Assist in the production of the Trust mandatory costing returns including the National Cost Collection (NCC).

To work with and advise non-finance staff and clinicians in respect of the SLR information and the costing process.

To assist in the continued development of Patient Level Costing across the Trust. To work with colleagues in Information Services, Clinical Coding and Learning & Development to ensure that the underlying activity data is accurate.

Assist in the continuous development of Patient Level Costing to support:

o Service Line Reporting.

o an understanding of patient level costs at all levels of the organisation in order to drive improvements in efficiency and quality in service delivery.

o the development of prices for NHS work not covered by the National Tariff and for non NHS work.

o compliance with NHS Englands Approved Costing Guidance

Assist in informing the decisions as to the appropriate methods of allocating and apportioning costs in order to facilitate the production of accurate SLR information.

Work with the Costing Analyst, Head of Costing and Finance & Business Partners to develop a rolling programme of review for all cost allocations in Service Line Reporting.

Assist in the production of the Trusts annual National Cost Collection (NCC), Education &Training and any other mandatory cost submission.

Assist in the analysis of the Trusts published National Cost Collection for presentation to Finance and non-finance and Business Managers and clinicians.

Assist the Head of Costing in the implementation and roll-out of the Qlikview reporting tool for Service Line Reporting. This includes the provision of training to Finance and Business Managers and Service Line Leads.

Work closely with the Costing Analyst, Head of Costing & other colleagues in the Financial Planning and Information teams, to ensure the necessary information processes are in place to support accurate and timely costing using the Trusts costing software UserCost

Work with Clinical and Operational colleagues to improve engagement and use of SLR, PLC and PbR information within the Trust

Work within the costing team to work with external stakeholders including NHS England, the Department of Health and other NHS organisations to report, review, revise and benchmark costing information

Keep abreast of any new or future planned changes to the structure and scope of the Payment by Results regime.

Work closely with the Directorate finance teams, to develop and improve systems and procedures for linking contract activity performance more explicitly with the directorate financial position through Service Line Reporting, in order to achieve more accurate interpretation of variances from plan and to support financial planning.
