Job summary
The IT Specialist (Medical Devices) is responsible for the audit, identification and integration of Medical Devices where there is a requirement to connect them onto the Trusts data network.
The main responsibility of the post holder is to act as a lead for the IT Team liaising with Clinical Engineering Teams, Suppliers and System Admins. Leading in developing and implementing solutions for on-boarding Medical Devices onto the IT Infrastructure.
The post holder will also undertake other operational duties across the IT infrastructure with a focus on the data network and firewall components to ensure smooth day-to-day operations. This includes maintenance, troubleshooting and development work. They will do so alongside our contracted support partners.
A specialist knowledge of IT network infrastructure demonstrated by up-to-date vocational qualifications is key to the role as the post holder will be required to make decisions and develop solutions for integrating medical devices into our infrastructure. They may often be under pressure to compromise on the solution in order to meet deadline or budget constraints. The ability to identify and understand risk being pragmatic about finding solutions will be necessary.
The post holder will be based at Harbour Yard (Chelsea Dock) but will be required to travel between locations as required. The main sites are Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex Hospital. Other community in the South West London area also supported.
Main duties of the job
The primary function for IT Specialist (Medical Devices) is to manage the integration of specialist medical devices with the IT Infrastructure.
The post holder is responsible for reviewing specifications for device connectivity and identifying how they can be interfaced with the trusts network infrastructure whilst ensuring compliance with the Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT).
The post holder is required to co-ordinate between teams to progress project tasks and to manage operational work maintaining standards around the Medical Device configurations.
The post holder should have exposure to working with medical devices in a clinical environment.
Key to the role is experience configuring and maintaining IT Infrastructure systems including networks, firewalls and servers.

Main Duties: Support the IT and Clinical Engineering teams to ensure the delivery of third party service products. Proactively identify the needs of the Trust from a medical devices connectivity point of view and produce solutions to meet these requirements. Implement the aforementioned solutions. Undertaking technical configurations. Work in close collaboration of other colleagues including Clinical Engineering, the IT department, with 3rd party suppliers. Taking a lead role and driving others where their input is required. Coordinate between stakeholders in designing and implementing network connectivity solutions. Work with colleagues to highlight the financial resources needed for, and returns of, connectivity solutions. Maintain existing connectivity systems and databases. Identify and manage data security risks related to medical devices inline with the Cybersecurity Team. Document and maintain records of infrastructure & medical device configurations including handover and support information. Producing solution handover documentation and trains colleagues on systems and solutions that have been implemented. Maintaining and troubleshooting operational issues related to medical device connectivity. Supporting the evaluation of new technology developments, to include the recommendation of new technologies, where appropriate. Using the trusts IT Service Management tools for managing work. Work within change management process and procedures as required. Assist with the day-to-day management of the data network including working with support partners. Make configuration changes on infrastructure including network infrastructure and firewalls. Assist with the pro-active monitoring of the network infrastructure making sure an appropriate response is made to any issues. Day to day management of 3rd party representatives and consultants to support them and ensuring the quality of their work. Performing regular service reviews with support providers. Providing technical support and guidance to colleagues. Interpreting multiple, complicated policies, strategies and guidance documents collating the output and applying it to produce compliant solutions. Working at the cutting edge, assessing new technologies comparing them and delivering benefits to the organisation. Supporting the maintenance and development of information systems used across the trust. Able to identify, understand and address risks being proactive in managing and mitigating them.
