Job summary

The Trust is committed to implementing Shared Decision Making across the organisation. As part of this, the post-holder will take the learning from the 6 pilot Shared Decision Making Councils and roll out Shared Decision Making across the Trust, supported by the Magnet4Europe team.

Shared Decision Making involves front line staff in decision making to improve patient and staff experience and clinical outcomes, based on the premise that front line staff work most closely with patients and will be better informed about what will most make a difference to patient care.

The successful candidate will work as a subject matter expert and report to the Magnet Lead. You will support ward and outpatient managers, nursing and midwifery staff and the clinical educators to ensure that there is an appropriate learning environment for supporting shared governance and implementing shared decision-making councils.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will

  • Facilitate staff throughout the organisation to develop and sustain a culture of shared decision making through education, training and ongoing support.
  • Support shared decision making council leads ensuring they are equipped with the skills and knowledge to lead their councils
  • Work with the Magnet team to identify areas for development and improvement in the shared decision making methodology and processes, being proactive in identifying strategies for change.
  • Support audit and research and the implementation of evidenced based practice to inform improvement projects
  • Implement tools to measure the impact of shared decision making on patient experience, staff experience & turnover, and clinical outcomes
  • Organize and facilitate the shared decision making leadership council in liaison with the Magnet leads
  • Support the wider work of the Magnet programme. Ensure that the NMC standards are implemented and embedded in nursing practice through effective communication skills

  • Registered Nurse or Midwife on NMC professional register Educated to bachelors' level in a health / social care or nursing/midwifery related subject
  • Experience in quality improvement, with experience/ aware of QI methodologies, such as PDSA cycle

  • Experience of project and programme management techniques and tools such as Prince 2 or Managing Successful Projects
