Full time position (37.5h/week)
This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and motivated Pain Management Service, working cross site at Chelsea & Westminster and West Middlesex University Hospitals. This is an established service that provides highly specialised services to adult and paediatric patients with acute and chronic pain, within a multidisciplinary setting. The Clinical Nurse Specialist is expected to support all areas of the service and work in conjunction with the Lead Clinical Nurse Specialist to help in developing individuals within the service and the service as a whole.
The outpatient role involves supporting the pain clinic, neuromodulation and capsaicin service. Additionally, conducting TENS, post procedure follow up and medication review clinics.
The individual must demonstrate excellent communication skills, be a role model, enthusiastic, and be able to motivate and support individuals in the team, to enable the continuing and on-going development of the service. They will be responsible for providing education and assist in developing audit and research strategies for the service.
There is great scope in this role to develop both personally and professionally. We are looking for an individual with some experience of working within a pain management service who is looking for a developmental opportunity or a new challenge.
Main duties of the job
The role of the Nurse Specialist includes:
- Receiving referrals.
- Providing skilled assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of specialist care within defined guidelines and protocols.
- Referring to other disciplines and agencies.
- Providing expert advice and guidance to nurses & other disciplines.
- Providing specialist training and education to own and other professions.
- Setting and monitoring standards of care and treatment.
- Participating in audit and research activity.
- Disseminating good practice.
- Providing skilled professional leadership.
- Ensuring effective communication between all service providers across the care pathway.
The post holder will play a key role in improving the delivery of our service to meet the needs of our patients. This will be through working in both the inpatient and outpatient pain service. The role involves reviewing inpatients with acute and chronic pain. The outpatient role involves supporting the Pain Clinic, neuromodulation and capsaicin service. Additionally, conducting TENS, post procedure follow up and medication review clinics. This is an integrated role and the post holder will work closely with the rest of the pain service, to allow for cross cover and support for the service. The service has developed as a multidisciplinary service involving physiotherapists, psychologists, neurosurgeons, neurologists, as well as pain physicians and the successful applicant will be a valuable part of this team.
