Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

Consultant in Obs and Gynae - Emergency and One Stop Gynaecology

The closing date is 02 July 2025

Job summary

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital Foundation Trust wishes to appoint an enthusiastic, forward thinking Substantive Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist with a special interest in Gynaecology Oncology (Rapid Access) and Out Patient Hysteroscopy. The successful candidate will join a large consultant team providing general and specialised obstetrics and gynaecology services to the local population of West London and neighbouring areas. The post will be based at the West Middlesex University Hospital site. The responsibility of the post holder is to provide support in running Rapid Access clinics, colposcopy clinic, gynaecology theatres and Outpatient hysteroscopy services. The successful candidate will work with established consultants and members of the multidisciplinary team. The appointment will be 10 PAs and includes a hybrid on call commitment for Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

The on call pattern for consultants is going through a consultation process at present and there is possible changes in the on call pattern anticipated upon its completion. The successful candidate will have a change in the on call pattern when this is implemented.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will provide a high quality Obstetrics and Gynaecology service, in conjunction with consultant colleagues already in post. It would be expected that the consultant offers continuous responsibility for the care of patients named under their team.

Whilst this post is initially and primarily based at the West Middlesex site, all appointments may require cross-site working to varying degrees.

In particular we are looking for a colleague to support the Gynaecology One stop clinics and 2 WW clinics, Early Pregnancy Unit, Out Patient Hysteroscopy and emergency obstetrics service. These services are already established and the successful candidate will have an opportunity to develop these specialist services further.

There will be dedicated time for teaching medical students (tutorials, ward, clinic and theatre based learning) and for post graduate teaching and training (Friday post graduate afternoons are statutory sessions for all staff). Regular audits will be required and supervision for Quality Improvement Projects (QIP) undertaken by the trainees. Involvement in general management and committee work for the hospital will also be encouraged.
