Senior Clinical Fellow in Palliative Care Medicine

This is an exciting opportunity for anyone interested in Palliative Medicine to work as part of an established hospital liaison multidisciplinary specialist palliative care service. This post would provide an excellent opportunity to up-skill in preparation for applying for a Palliative Medicine training post. Applications would also be welcomed from trainees who are interested in pursuing other medical or surgical careers who want to broaden their experience before specialising. Further, caring for patients with life limiting illnesses is clearly an important aspect of many medical and surgical specialities.

This post will be on 2002 Junior doctor contract on MN37 pay scale.

Main duties of the job

The Clinical Fellow will be expected to

  • Work within a multi-disciplinary team including Specialist Nurses, Allied Health Professionals, Palliative Medicine Consultants and team administrator.
  • Gain experience of specialist palliative care holistic assessment and the symptom management of patients with life limiting illnesses.
  • Support the development and delivery of End of Life (EOL) education and training for the Trust, including the expansion of the highly evaluated EOL simulation training courses to a broader audience across the organisation.
  • Participate in weekly specialist palliative care MDT meetings
  • Support the coordination of care for patients known to the Specialist Palliative Care team across the hospital/community interface
  • Work with teams across the Medical and Surgical directorates
  • Attend educational meetings
  • Contribute to the growing portfolio of quality improvement and audit
