Occupational Therapist - North Mersey Stroke Service

Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a band 5 Occupational Therapist to join the North Mersey stroke service. The post is rotational across stroke services at Aintree hospitals and Broadgreen working across the stroke pathway from SEAC- HASU -Rehab.

You will need a passion for patient centred rehabilitation and bring persona drive to develop yourself, your team and services. Newly qualified therapists will be supported by the trust preceptorship program which covers skills across both nursing and AHPs.

The trust offers a 12month preceptorhsip program for newly qualified therapists. this is an innovative program led by a multi-professional team of educators with a proven ability to coach and mentor. Utilising you preceptorship portfolio and by attending the program, you can enhance your clinical expertise, master complex concepts, sharpen your critical thinking ability, promote career advancements and develop your leadership potential. In addition, your program will provide you with further skills including quality improvement, resilience and mindfulness.

You will also have access to a stroke inservice training program and a robust supervision structure.

There will be a requirement to work flexibly across late shifts and 7day services on a rota basis.

Main duties of the job

The main responsibilities in this post include:

- To carry out neurological therapy assessment to identify post stroke deficits and to clinically reason the need for further assessment and treatment.- To identify the most appropriate form of ongoing assessment including functional assessments, seating, upper limb and need for splinting along with standardised cognitive and mood screens.- To set patient centred goals, devise and regularly review treatment plans to achieve these.- To work closely with the MDT to identify rehabilitation potential and the most appropriate setting for this to occur eg stroke rehab unit / own home.- To communicate effectively with patient, family and wider organisations in order to effectively support patients recovery and co-ordinate a safe transfer of care / discharge.- To effectively manage own caseload, prioritise and delegate to Generic Therapy assistants.- To identify all necessary equipment to facilitate discharge and complete timely referrals to equipment supplier.- To complete clear and concise referrals to other services and co-ordinate a timely discharge to ensure maintenance of patient flow.- To ensure compliance with mandatory training and ensure all trust policies are followed.
