Job summary

We are currently seeking two motivated and experienced Band 6 Co-ordinators to lead the day-to-day operation of our Surgical Assessment Unit (SAU).

Applicants must have a minimum of two years' post-qualification experience within an acute surgical setting. Two positions are currently available hours are negotiable and can be discussed at interview.

SAU consists of a seated assessment area, two 7-bedded bays, and two side rooms. The unit plays a vital role in supporting patient flow across the organisation by relieving pressure on the Emergency Department throughDirect Conveyancing, accepting patients directly from GP's, and managing patients returning for planned surgical review as Ward attenders.

Main duties of the job

Liaise with the Senior Surgical Team to ensure timely review of any sick patients in accordance with departmental standards.

Work closely with junior nursing staff to support them, facilitate discharges.

Liaise with the Bed Management team via Bleep system or to ascertain the bed availability on the wards.

Have clear overview of all patients in SAU and monitor compliance with departmental standards.

Maintain communication with all members of the team throughout the shift. Provide leadership and support as required

Complete or delegate various quality checks within the department on a daily basis: Including Resus trolley and CD Cupboard.

Attend bed meetings, advising senior team of bed capacity, potential and active discharges, transfers by speciality/gender and any staffing issues
