An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, flexible Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist to join the acute SLT team at University Hospitals of Liverpool Group (UHLG) based at the Royal Hospital site.

You will have the opportunity to work with complex general medical conditions, supported by expert practitioner SLTs across a range of clinical specialities including Frailty, A&E, Gastroenterology, Infectious Diseases, Respiratory and Critical Care.

We are a dynamic, supportive, and friendly team who are forward thinking and passionate about evidence-based practice and service improvement. We lead a well-established videofluoroscopy clinic for inpatients and outpatientsand offer a fibreoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES) service to inpatients on the ward.

We offer excellent clinical and professional supervision with access to dysphagia training in line with the RCSLT competency framework where you will be supported with ongoing development in complex communication and dysphagia. You will be encouraged to support service development through participation in projects. This post is suitable for newly qualified practitioners and experienced Band 5s, with personal development plans adapted according to experience.

Main duties of the job

To provide a Speech and Language Therapy service to inpatients who have communication and swallowing impairments in general medicine with access to supervision as required.

You will work as part of a fully integrated Multi-Disciplinary Team alongside medical staff, nursing staff, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Dietitians and other professionals to provide an optimum quality service for patients and their families.

Band 5 SLTs support with training of Band 3 and 4 Assistant Practitioners as well as the wider multidisciplinary team/ support staff.

There will be development and training opportunities including completion of dysphagia competency based training and external courses with access to regular peer and senior supervision.

Commitment to continuing professional development by supporting/leading monthly CPD team events, peer supervision, attendance and presentation at internal and national courses
