Job summary
The Exercise Physiologist plays a key role in supporting the health, wellbeing, and cardiac fitness of our patients. In this position, you will assess individual patient needs and design safe, effective, and personalised exercise programmes for people with a range of heart conditions. Working both autonomously and as part of our multidisciplinary cardiac rehabilitation team, you will apply your knowledge of exercise science, physiology, and anatomy to help patients improve their cardiac function and overall quality of life. The ideal candidate will have experience prescribing and delivering exercise programmes, preferably within a cardiac rehabilitation setting along with strong communication skills and a genuine passion for helping others achieve their fitness and wellness goals.
Main duties of the job
The role involves developing and implementing safe, individualized exercise programs for patients with cardiac conditions, setting appropriate exercise goals, and facilitating their return to work or daily activities. Responsibilities include teaching cardiovascular and strength training exercises, leading group warm-up and cool-down sessions, and monitoring patient progress to adjust programs as needed. The role also includes providing home-based exercise prescriptions for patients opting for home rehabilitation, offering education on safe exercise and its benefits for cardiac health, and preparing comprehensive exercise plans with onward referrals upon discharge. The position requires maintaining equipment and a safe environment, liaising with the clinical team about patient progress, and accurately documenting patient records according to Trust guidelines while staying up-to-date with best practices in cardiac rehabilitation.
