Senior Clinical Fellow - Microbiology40 Hours per weekFixed Term until August 2026This advert is for working in the Microbiology Department in Liverpool Clinical Laboratories as a Clinical Fellow. We provide microbiology laboratory and clinical services to a wide range of hospitals and community care provides. We also run the national Brucella reference laboratory.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Microbiology Clinical Fellow post to cover the following

Clinical consults service - clinical review of new culture reports including blood cultures and sterile fluids. Follow up of complex cases. A key member of the IE MDT

Clinical telephone advice - call lines open 9am - 5pm providing advice to users around laboratory testing, result interpretation and complex clinical queries

Authorisation - reviewing laboratory reports and authorising for our users

  • MBBS/MBChB or equivalent medical qualification
  • Full GMC registration
  • Evidence of completion of CMT or equivalent

Desirable

  • MRCP or equivalent
  • General medicine experience
  • Infection/microbiology related qualification, e.g., Diploma in Medical Microbiology, MSc in Microbiology, DTM&H
  • Evidence of continuing professional updating

Experience

Essential

  • Clinical microbiology or Infectious disease experience
  • Demonstrate an appropriate knowledge base
  • Ability to apply sound clinical judgements to problems.
  • Experience of Microbiology & Infection patient management

Desirable

  • Experience of Educational Supervision, teaching skills, developing Infection or Microbiology teaching and training programmes
  • Evidence of relevant academic and research achievements e.g., prizes, awards, publications etc.
  • Experience of the practice of clinical governance and audit - specialist and multidisciplinary
  • Experience of clinical specialties where there is a significant component of infection, including infectious diseases, haematology/ oncology or ITU or HDU
  • Knowledge of specialist areas such as infection control
