Consultant Geriatrician with a Specialist Interest in Orthogeriatrics

Job summary

Liverpool University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust wishes to appoint a Consultant Geriatrician with a specialist interest in orthogeriatrics primarily based at its Aintree Site (full time 10PA + on call). Applications for less than full time working will be considered. We are looking for dynamic and enthusiastic individuals to expand our orthogeriatrics team in order to support the expanded Trauma services at the Aintree site.

Aintree, as part of the Major Trauma Centre Collaborative (MTCC), a partnership between Aintree University Hospital NHS Trust, Royal Liverpool & Broadgreen university Hospitals NHS Trust and The Walton Centre NHS Foundation trust, is the regional Major Trauma Centre for the North West. As such, Aintree cares for approximately 800 fracture neck of femurs per year. The orthogeriatrics team supports patients over the age of 65yrs with daily MDT and ward round and works closely with the orthopaedics MDT to provide holistic care for this group of patients. We are keen to develop the service to include more of our older population including those with distal femur fractures.

Main duties of the job

General:

The post holder will work alongside other geriatricians to develop innovative 7 day services for older people, both within the hospitals and community.

They will work with colleagues across sites to develop a seamless, equitable service.

Orthogeriatrics:

The successful applicant will be expected to work along with other orthogeriatricians to provide geriatrician input into the orthopaedic wards, reviewing patients and contributing to the hip fracture pathway.

They will have sessional work on the orthopaedic wards. This will include involvement in the MDT meeting and completion of orthogeriatrics assessment, contributing to best practice tariff. The number of patients will vary each day, dependent on the number of hip fractures, but would be expected to average 15 per day.

There will also be opportunity to work within the Trauma Service and for metabolic bone clinics
