Specialist Nurse in Inflammatory Dermatology

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 dermatology nurse in inflammatory dermatology to cover maternity leave on a fixed term for 12 months

The successful candidate will undertake Management of nurses and nurse led service for patients with chronic skin conditions requiring phototherapy including assessment of patients, planning and implements care providing specialist advice and counselling and monitoring of treatment regimes.

The successful candidate will have completed one of the national phototherapy courses.

They will provide a nurse-led monitoring service for patients on isotretinoin and biological therapies.

Manage the smooth running of the phototherapy unit and nurses within that area.

Facilitates development of new services to meet the needs of patients.

has requisite skills and knowledge to manage a caseload of patients requiring a particular therapy and uses clinical expertise and experience to adjust treatment protocols to optimise effects and minimise adverse effects based on clinical evidence/best practice.

Providing a nurse led clinic service monitoring disease progress and efficacy of therapeutic drugs for management of inflammatory skin disease in accordance with NICE / MHRA guidelines (isotretinoin / biologic clinics)

Job responsibilities

Will have completed one of the national phototherapy courses and will manage the smooth running of the phototherapy unit and the nurses within that area.

Facilitates developments of new services to meet the needs of patients

Articulates the evidence base around Phototherapy changes practice accordingly

Has requisite skills and knowledge to manage a caseload of patients requiring a particular therapy and uses clinical expertise and experience to adjust treatment protocols to optimise effects and minimise adverse effects based on clinical evidence/best practice

Using advanced communication skills prepares patients for Phototherapy ie pre treatment counselling/consent, Minimal Phototoxic Dose testing independently interpreting results and initiating appropriate treatment regime

Provide expert interventions/treatments, manages related complications

Development of phototherapy Training programme, educating and developing others in theory and practice of Phototherapy ie junior nurses, medical students and doctors

Responsible for establishing and maintaining a system for calibration of all phototherapy equipment and advises on principles of metering and dosimetry for use with Phototherapy equipment

Develops and reviews information leaflets for patients in liaison with Trusts quality department, ensuring information is up to date and evidence based

Produces and reviews guidelines / protocols for Phototherapies using evidence based practice

Provides a support service to staff and patients with chronic skin disease, Cutaneous T cell Lymphoma

Order and maintain specialist supplies eg ultraviolet light tubes, Psoralens

Ensures due regard is given to the customs, values and spiritual beliefs of patients

Develop methods for identifying, maintaining and improving the quality of care through facilitation of best practice ie Adverse events forms. Monthly meetings

Making clinical decisions for a defined patient group
