Job summary

An opportunity has arisen within the Gastroenterology Care Group for an IBD Specialist Nurse in Gastroenterology, working as part of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) team.

On the Royal site, the IBD service is a specialist and tertiary referral centre, and the team provides specialist services for the Merseyside and Cheshire region, approximately 21/4m people. There are ten gastroenterology consultants with specialist interest in IBD and the team is leading the way in IBD management, therapies and research working closely with Colorectal surgeons, stoma nurses, dieticians and pharmacists.

The post holder will be an integral member of the established IBD team on the RLH Site working alongside the existing IBD Lead nurse and their team to enhance the service currently offered.

This post would be suitable for a Registered nurse with substantial post registration experience and with demonstrable experience of working within gastroenterology.

Main duties of the job

The Clinical Nurse Specialist will act as the clinical expert and professional resource to the multi-Professional team, patients and carers within their Speciality Service.

The post holder will take overall responsibility to develop the specialist area of practice in partnership with other members of the speciality team (Head of Operations, Lead Clinician, Matron, Service Manager etc) will work collaboratively to develop services and quality of care delivered.

The post holder will be expected to provide first-line management. This will be achieved through the core dimensions of the role, clinical practice leadership, acting as the patient advocate and through audit and education.

The post holder will carry responsibility for either a defined case load or offering "highly specialist service advice" this will include setting standards of care, the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care.
