Job summary
We are seeking a registered pharmacy technician to join our friendly and forward-thinking renal pharmacy team, supporting services for renal transplant and nephrology patients.
Now based in our modern, purpose-built hospital, we are entering an exciting phase of service development. Significant investment from the transplant service will strengthen the role of pharmacy in the care of transplant patients, creating new opportunities to influence the patient pathway and optimise medicines use across this complex and rewarding area of care.
Our services span inpatient care at the Royal Liverpool Hospital, outpatient clinics, and a network of satellite haemodialysis units across Merseyside. As a Senior Pharmacy Technician for Renal Services, you will play a key role in ensuring that medicines management processes are efficient, safe, and patient-centred across all these settings.
We are looking for a registered pharmacy technician with an accuracy checking certificate who is passionate about patient care and excited to contribute to the ongoing transformation of our services. Main duties of the job
You will work alongside the lead pharmacists and a team of Senior Pharmacy Technicians for Renal Services to ensure medicines supply services are optimised. Making sure safe, timely medicines supplies, answering medication-related queries and signposting as appropriate. You will provide patient counselling to promote understanding and adherence.
Working in a multidisciplinary team you will contribute to cost-saving and service improvement initiatives.
Working in clinic, on the wards and from our busy satellite pharmacy rooms you will be responsible for the delivery of safe and cost-effective pharmaceutical care to newly admitted patients, as well as facilitating efficient discharges
To undertake this role, you will need you to have excellent organisational skills. You must be able to work accurately, have a good eye for detail, and be able to prioritise your workload, meet deadlines and be committed to the delivery of high standards in a patient focused service.
We are open every day of the year our rota's include weekends, bank holidays and late nights.

To provide a clinical technical service to inpatient wards, satellite units and relevant renal clinics, including the taking of comprehensive medication histories and to provide a cost-effective one-stop dispensing service involving accuracy checking patients own drugs and assessing their suitability for reuse
To liaise with clinical pharmacists and nursing staff to enable development of the renal service.
To carry out and check, if appropriate, the dispensing and issuing of medicines from the pharmacy department in accordance with the policies, procedures and safe systems of work which prevail at the time.
To check for prescribing and other errors within those limits compatible with technician training and bring these to the attention of the supervising pharmacists via the agreed procedures and when required liaise with hospital medical staff, nursing staff, PCNs, nursing homes and community pharmacy staff.
To interpret medical notes and test results, identify pharmaceutical and clinical problems and refer to the appropriate medical staff or clinical pharmacist.
To answer telephone and face to face queries of a routine or technical nature from a wide range of staff groups, in pharmacy, on the ward, or from renal transplant patients within competence, referring to other appropriate HCP when relevant.
To assess POMs for suitability for continued use and ensure sufficient supplies of medication are available on ward for individual patients.
To supervise and oversee the renal transplant repeat dispensing scheme which operates within the trust.
To ensure that appropriate instructions, demonstrations and counselling of patients with regard to their drug therapy, is offered and delivered in a professional manner as advised or directed by the supervising pharmacists and according to the prevailing departmental policies and procedures.
To perform a final accuracy, check on prescriptions and orders which have previously been clinically checked by a pharmacist and in accordance with Trust procedures, and ensure dispensing errors are corrected by the appropriate member of staff.
To deputise as required by the Technical Services Manager in the absence of senior technicians.
To fully co-operate with senior managers in the timely and accurate collecting and collating of information.
To participate in and fully co-operate with project work and carry out developmental projects in line with the objectives of the Trust and Pharmacy Directorate.
To attend any meetings relevant to the role and appropriate training courses for technicians, to encourage other staff to undertake further training and to participate in such training schemes necessary to keep relevant pharmaceutical and clinical technical knowledge up to date.
To undertake Continuing Professional Development in order to keep pharmaceutical knowledge current, ensure best practice and comply with requirements for entry on the pharmacy technician register.
To fully co-operate with the overall provision of a high quality, efficient and cost-effective pharmacy service.
To work in all sections of the department as required by the Technical Services Manager.
To co-operate in staff rotation within the pharmacy departments of the Trust including all dispensaries, the aseptic department and out patients and to participate in Saturday, Sunday, Bank holiday and late night duties as is considered appropriate by the Chief Pharmacist or other seniormanager.
To undertake such reasonable duties as may be required from time to time.
