Job summary
An exciting opportunity for a enthusiastic hard working, experienced healthcare assistant has arisen on Ward 8D Infectious Diseases. We are looking for a new Band 3 HCA to join our team caring for complex patients with a wide variety of needs including acute an chronic illnesses. Some of the conditions we care for include; HIV, Encephalitis, Cellulitis, Urinary and Respiratory Infectious and C-Difficile.
The successful candidate will need to be able to show that they are eager to learn and develop new skills including; recording observations and escalating abnormal parameters, recording blood glucose levels, venepuncture, cannulation and simple wound dressings. The ability to show leadership among more junior HCAs and work as part of a team is essential. Excellent communication and previous experience in an acute NHS hospital are also essential.
Main duties of the job
Experience
? Experience as a Health Care Assistant at a minimum of band 2 required. Completing a minimum of 2 years as a HCA in an acute setting.
Skills/Attributes
? Understanding of quality and change in the clinical setting.
? Ability to communicate in a variety of settings with patients of varying levels of understanding.
? Able to present factual information and refer questions to others where appropriate.
? Able to deal with sensitive issues with tact and diplomacy.
? An understanding of organisation of nursing care.
? Basic IT skills in E mail.
? Basic understanding of NHS issues.
? Ability to develop effective interpersonal relationships with colleagues in the health care setting
- Able to record and take observations and escalate abnormal parameters.
- Able to take blood glucose monitoring and escalate abnormal parameters appropriately.
- Undertake simple wound dressings.
- Provide Leadership to junior colleagues- B2 HCAs and student nurses and ensure you are supporting RNs and colleagues.
