We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, forward-thinking Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to join our Adult Speech and Language Therapy Team at Broadgreen Hospital. You will work within acute and sub-acute settings within clinical gerontology and post elective orthopaedic and urological surgery. There is opportunity to work with a broad range of complex conditions alongside a range of other specialities. You will be supported to develop skills in dysphagia and communication as well as caseload management, prioritisation, and leadership.

The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic and friendly multidisciplinary team who are passionate about patient care and service delivery. The role embraces driving rehab and re-enablement with older people, and you will have the opportunity to work with elderly care and post-surgery patients in the acute environment.

We are a progressive department who are well-respected by our medical, nursing and AHP colleagues. We are the drivers of a number of local policies and projects, and to ensure best practice, we work collaboratively as a department, attending CENs, SIGs and working parties regionally and beyond.

This opportunity is also open to experienced Band 5s who are keen to develop into a band 6 role via a training route.

Main duties of the job

You will provide evidence-based Speech and Language Therapy assessment and intervention for patients with eating, drinking or communication difficulties. Patients may have physical and mental health conditions related to progressive conditions such as dementia, Parkinson's disease, and MND.

There is opportunity for MDT work in a welcoming team. You will work within the MDT as a valued team member. There is opportunity to contribute to daily ward-based board-round and weekly MDT meetings. There will be opportunities for developing the SALT service provision within this setting including dysphagia / communication training.

There is access to expert practitioner Speech and Language Therapists in advanced dysphagia, Stroke, critical care, respiratory and voice. Videofluoroscopy clinics run weekly. We have a well-established FEES training programme for senior clinicians. All Band 6 staff have the opportunity to become Videofluoroscopy practitioners.

We have regular team meetings and are committed to continuing professional development. We have a clear supervision structure and advice is available from our highly skilled Clinical Specialists within the department.

Band 6 therapists are required to supervise Band 5 / assistant staff and deputise for clinical team leads. You will be encouraged to support service development through inclusion in internal and external projects.
