Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust wishes to appoint a Clinical Fellow at Registrar level to support the existing team based at Aintree University Hospital, commencing in September 2024
The Gastroenterology Care Group incorporates medical gastroenterology, hepatology and endoscopy. Dr Tamsin Gledhill Consultant Gastroenterologist is the Clinical Director for Gastroenterology at the Aintree site. Dr Cyril Sieberhagen is the Hepatology Lead and Dr Neil Kapoor is the Endoscopy lead.
Aintree Gastroenterology Directorate is an exciting and dynamic department with a large cohesive consultant team providing specialist gastroenterology and hepatology care on a local and regional level. There are close working relationships between the gastroenterology care group and the general surgery care group which comprises the trusts departments of upper gastrointestinal surgery, liver surgery, pancreatic surgery, colorectal surgery, and emergency surgery. Working closely, surgeons and physicians come together to provide in house multidisciplinary care for our patients. This enables us to provide top quality care for our local population as well as the tertiary work for our region and beyond.

Main duties of the job
The Appointee will join five colleagues to support the Middle Grade provision of services to the Gastroenterology patients treated within Aintree. Although not a recognised training post, the successful candidate will be offered the same training opportunities for training and development as the Specialist Training Registrars and is an excellent opportunity for anybody who has completed their Core Medical Training and is considering a career in Gastroenterology. We would be very pleased to support the successful candidate in their application for a Training Post or CESR application towards the end of their attachment with us.

Job responsibilities
The successful applicant will be expected to work five days per week, within the Gastroenterology department. Duties will consist of ward work and out-patient clinics and there will be the opportunity to train in endoscopy.
The ward cover is on a hot block rotational system 2 in 6 weeks with opportunities to undertake training in in-patient endoscopy with the remaining 4 in 6 weeks concentrating on out-patients and endoscopy. You will be allocated an educational supervisor; clinics and endoscopy will be tailored to training requirements.
In addition, other duties will include research, audit, administration and continuing medical education. Please note that the job plan may change on a weekly basis to maximise training opportunities whilst at the same time ensuring continuity of services.
Accountability
The appointed individual will be professionally and managerially accountable to the clinical director of the care group.
Teaching
A commitment to Under Graduate and Post Graduate teaching is required which will be delivered within the existing timetable.
Continuing Medical Education
The Appointee will be expected to maintain good standards of continuing Medical Education.
Appraisal and Job Planning
Annual appraisal and job planning will be required.
Audit/Clinical Governance
All medical staff are expected to participate in Medical Audit. Regular monthly audit meetings are organised in the department, and the appointee will be expected to participate.
Fully informed and documented consent will be undertaken for procedures and body tissue samples.
Research
A commitment to Research would be encouraged.
