Job summary

The post is that of a Specialist in Special Care Dentistry, based at Liverpool University Dental Hospital.

The post holder is expected to have a high level of knowledge and expertise in the field of Special Care Dentistry and should have an innovative approach to teaching, and patient care.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is expected to provide treatment under inhalation sedation, intravenous sedation and general anaesthesia.

The post has an important role in supporting teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students and StRs.

The post holder will help to foster good relationships between the Dental Hospital and General Dental Practitioners, Community Dental Service and Primary Care Trusts and other health care providers.

The post-holder will participate in, and where required, lead departmental quality improvement projects.

All clinical staff are accountable and responsible for their own clinical competence and should limit their activity to that which is deemed to be within their competence.

  • Full registration with the United Kingdom General Dental Council (GDC)
  • Inclusion on the GDC Specialist List in Special Care Dentistry (or within 6 months of attainment)
  • Membership in Special Care Dentistry or equivalent

Desirable

  • Post graduate sedation qualification
  • Research degree or equivalent

General

  • Satisfactory pre-employment health screening
  • Fully subscribed member of a recognised professional indemnity organisation

Experience and Training

  • Possession of a certificate of accreditation or eligibility for CCST in Special Care Dentistry (or within 6 months of attainment).
  • Successful completion of a SAC approved 3 year training programme in Special Care Dentistry
  • Competence in behaviour management techniques and inhalation & intravenous sedation
  • Experience of delivering care under general anaesthesia.

Desirable

  • Experience of teaching at undergraduate level
