Job summary

A great opportunity has arisen for a Band 4 Dialysis Assistant .

The candidate must have the care certificate, at least NVQ level 3 care or above and be fully compliant with mandatory training.

The successful candidate will be working with an experienced and excellent team of nurses, dialysis assistants, health care assistants and medics.

We currently have 7 stations running 07:00 - midnight Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and 07:00 - 19:00 Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Main duties of the job

The Dialysis Assistant will function at a higher level of competency than that of other health care assistants. They will have responsibility for actively participating as part of a multi-disciplinary team, with proximal supervision from a registered nurse, in providing a holistic renal replacement therapy to our dialysis patients.

Job responsibilities

Deliver therapeutic renal replacement therapy to patients as required within set protocols and within the scope of the Dialysis Assistant remit.

Perform patient assessment (under supervision and after appropriate delegation from the registered practitioner), plan and deliver high standards of care.

Develop, implement and evaluate individual care plans, utilising models, protocols, practical and theoretical knowledge.

Perform area specific clinical competencies to enhance the delivery of patient care. Initiate renal replacement therapies as appropriate to patients individual needs.

Evaluate and assess patient's vascular access for dialysis.

Administer anticoagulants as part of Renal Replacement Therapy.

Maintain vascular access whilst initiative, during and concluding renal replacement therapy. Observe for signs of infection and report to the registered nurse or appropriate medical team. Ensure relevant information is documented.
