Job summary

Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust wishes to appoint a full time locum Dental Core Trainee on a fixed term contract from March 24-September 24.

The Regional Maxillofacial Unit provides a comprehensive service in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery to the residents of South Sefton and Liverpool and more broadly to Merseyside and Cheshire as a whole.

The Regional Unit operates a 'hub and spoke' arrangement with other hospitals in the region. Most major surgery carried out centrally at the hub (Aintree) and numerous outpatient and minor surgery arrangements peripherally in the spoke hospitals.

Applicants are required to be fully registered with the General Dental Council.

Main duties of the job

Within the full shift pattern, DCTs work across all areas of clinical practice in the hospital. This includes night cover, ward duty, trauma cover (including a trauma clinic and theatre), consultant clinics, ward work, Minor Oral Surgery under LA, GA day-case surgery, and inpatient operating lists.

There are sessions allocated for audit and education.

There are 30 inpatient beds in the MFU. We are an accredited practice development unit (PDU) and encourage multi-disciplinary working.

The DCT is responsible for the organisation of day to day management of the patients admitted under the care of the OMFS consultants under the supervision of the specialty registrars.

Whilst the Appointee is not expected to adhere to the fixed job plan, they will work within the MFU flexibly.
