Job summary

Applications are invited for a clinical fellow post in critical care medicine. The posts would be for six months with an opportunity to extend this to twelve months by mutual consent.

These posts would suit doctors wishing to gain experience or further experience and skills in critical care medicine, especially doctors in anaesthesia, general and emergency medicine, respiratory medicine and surgery.

Our aim is to support you to progress in either a career in intensive care medicine or to gain experience in dealing with critically ill patients in whatever specialty you choose to follow. You will be allocated an educational supervisor who will act as advisor and mentor. You will gain experience in managing critically unwell patients and skills relating to critical care medicine including line insertions; bronchoscopy; tracheostomy; drain insertion; transfer of level 2 and 3 patients to CT, MRI, interventional radiology and theatre.

You will be encouraged to develop your non-clinical skills and your portfolio by participating in audit, QI projects, teaching, education and research.

Our friendly and enthusiastic team aims to provide excellent support and mentorship as well as the clinical and non-clinical skills to feel confident in the care and management of critically ill patients, throughout the duration of your post and beyond.

Although the posts are not classified as approved training posts, all our trainees receive the same training, experience, support and education.

Main duties of the job

You would be working with Foundation Year 2, Core trainees and Specialty trainee doctors from a wide range of specialties to provide 24-hour cover for critical care.
