Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a divisional governance and assurance officer to work within the Corporate Cancer Services team.

The post holder will work closely with the Corporate Cancer Nursing Team and Site Divisional Governance Teams, promoting and facilitating the Quality Governance Framework within the Division. Applicants should have a good understanding and knowledge of the Governance agenda across the NHS.

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Nursing for Cancer, the post holder will have responsibility for supporting all aspects of governance across the Division, including incident and complaint management, risk, and clinical audit and effectiveness processes.

The post holder will have good analytical skills as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills. Candidates should have skills and experience of key governance and assurance principles. This role also requires individuals with excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage their own workload without supervision within a busy environment

Main duties of the job

Support the Cancer Services team in the development, implementation and monitoring of a standardised quality and governance framework, including risk management and clinical effectiveness

To support the Service in the monitoring of Divisional Risk Register

To support the Clinical Director and Associate Director of Nursing Nurse in monitoring and reporting of all outstanding actions associated with mitigation of risks within the Service

Support the service in monitoring and reporting compliance with local SOP's, quality standards and service specification, identifying deficiencies and developing mitigations and action plans

Support the trust wide Cancer Harm Review process, coordinating and managing the returns for external submission and development of thematic reports to inform the Cancer Improvement Programme.

Support the delivery of excellent Cancer MDT governance through the Cancer Improvement Programme

Support the divisional review of incidents in line with the patient safety framework. Highlighting cases for further review mini-initial analysis reports, writing timelines, supporting High Impact Learning assessment meetings and supporting the learning response lead as required.

Support the implementation of Learning from Death Reports review across the Cancer Services Division assisting with investigations required and lessons learned needs.
