This is an exciting opportunity to join the Renal Transplant Recipient Coordinator Team in a role which is both diverse and rewarding.We are looking for a highly motivated, organised nurse who can show initiative. The applicant must have worked as a band 6 or above, preferably with a background in nephrology or transplantation and has an interest in kidney transplantation.
The living donor coordinator role involves assessing patients who wish to donate a kidney to help someone who is in renal failure. It is a complex role which requires a sound understanding of renal care and the emotional impact of renal disease and donation. The role also requires excellent communication and organisational skills to coordinate kidney transplants between hospitals both nationally and locally.
The post holder will also be involved in local audits and be expected to keep up to date with national guidance in transplantation as well as developing practice locally. The role also involves working closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team, requiring effective teamwork.
This is a unique opportunity to work within a dynamic team within the Renal Transplant Department in a new state of the art hospital.
Main duties of the job
1) Maximise the number of live donor transplants locally.2) Promote awareness of the programme and disseminate information amongst relevant health care professionals.3) Promote awareness of the live donor programme amongst allied health professionals.4) Assist with the organisation of all aspects of the live donation process5) Provision of support for all families, potential donors and recipients, during the live donor work-up.6) Maintain a highly effective communications network. Oversee all aspects of the work-up process for renal transplantation.7) Upon completion, ensure relevant status of the patient on the transplant waiting list.8) Maintain a highly effective communications network with service users and providers throughout the region.9) Understand current legislation on live donation and transplantation. Provide advice to colleagues and other healthcare professionals.10) Promote research based practice by initiating and participating in appropriate research and audit projects.11) Work autonomously as a specialist in own geographical area.12) Provide mentorship for junior team members.13) Participate in an on-call rota to cover all potential kidney offers, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year (with internal cover for annual leave and short term sickness).
