Job summary

We have a vacancy for an enthusiastic Band 3 HCA to join our team on Ward 8D. This is a great opportunity to join our friendly and hard working team.

We are looking for a experienced HCA with or working towards NVQ LEVEL 3 to support our nursing team.

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about providing high standards of nursing care and are keen to develop further.

Main duties of the job

Ward 8D is a fast paced 28 Infectious Diseases Unit caring for patients with a mixture of General Medical issues and Tropical Infectious Disease related illnesses. We are looking for someone who prides themselves on excellent care and is keen to progress their career.

You must be an enthusiastic team player who has excellent communication and organisation skills.

We are looking for individuals who are passionate about providing high standards of nursing care and are keen to develop further. You must be enthusiastic team players who haveexcellent communication and organisation skills.

As a Band 3 HCA you will be expected to show leadership and organisation on the ward and relieve pressure on Registered Nursing team through completing tasks such as patient observations, monitoring blood glucose levels, taking ECGs, venepuncture/cannulation and the completion of minor dressings/wound care.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Cannulation and venepuncture training will be provided.

Observation training will be arranged

Promotes effective communication within the multi-disciplinary team and takes measures to overcome communication difficulties

Contributes to the management of aggressive and abusive behaviour

General bed making/making up of clean beds in readiness for new admissions, and operation beds. (Refer to policy for the care of mattresses and beds).

Clear and clean vacated bed spaces and prepare ready for use according tothe ward/unit protocol.

Prepare used linen bags for collection by Porters and ensure adequate supply of linen bags/skips ready for use.

Assist in maintaining a clean and safe environment in all areas.

Safe disposal of clinical waste and sharps as per Trust policy

Be familiar with Trust policy and procedure for reporting clinical incidents,reporting of incidents if they occur.

Attend to the needs of visitors and patients particularly those who may bedistressed or bereaved.

Care for patients property, including valuables, in accordance with Trust policy.

Obtain demographic details and social history from patients/visitors to assist in the admission process.

Provide support and assistance to new and junior members of staff.
