This post is directed at a qualified independent Advanced Nurse Practitioner who has completed an MSc in Advanced healthcare practice. ANP Trainee - band 8A (annex 21) will be considered.
Essential Criteria:
- Consideration as a trainee ANP/ACP, you must have completed part of the Masters level training programme with a minimum of clinical examination, and diagnostics.
- At least 5 years post qualification experience, relevant to acute medicine.
Main duties of the job
This is a predominantly clinical role within the Acute Medical Unit and Same Day Emergency Care. The role requires the Advanced Practitioner to take a thorough history, be confident in examinations skills, order and interpret relevant investigations and commence appropriate treatment plans for those patients referred to the Acute Medical Team.
As an Advanced Practitioner within the Acute Medical unit, you will work alongside senior medical colleagues on the Post Take Ward Round, request and review any appropriate investigations, commence treatment plans, prescribe medication and facilitate timely discharge planning. You will be supported in developing procedural skills, for example: lumbar puncture.
The successful candidate will have designated clinical hours on the Same Day emergency care unit to assess, diagnose and treat patients referred via the Emergency Department or the General Practitioner. You will be supported by senior medical colleagues when required.
As an advanced practitioner you will be expected to meet all 4 pillars of Advanced Practice. Although this is a predominantly clinical role, you will be required to be involved in teaching, research/service development and have leadership and management experience.
As an advanced practitioner you will support the nursing and junior medical team daily. Using your advanced communication skills, you will ensure that pertinent information is communicated effectively and lead on patient/family discussions.
