Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced suitably qualified HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist to join the Non-Automated Section within the Department of Clinical Biochemistry & Metabolic Medicine at Liverpool Clinical Laboratories (LCL).

LCL is the largest provider of pathology services in the Northwest.

Our vision is to pioneer new technologies and ways of working that better inform decisions about a person's health, by providing greater accessibility to clinical diagnostic services. We employ over 650 staff across four locations, 24 hours a day and process in excess of 15 million tests each year.

Our mission is to be world leaders in research and innovation, and we continually improve services for patients by investing in new insight and techniques.

The work we do is clinically led and cutting edge, making us a regional reference centre for many specialist investigations. As part of LCL you'll be encouraged to share your skills, whatever your area of expertise, to help drive the organisation to success.

We're looking for people who see opportunities, explore the potential, and recognise that behind every sample is a real person. If you're someone who inspires those around you and is a true 'team player', we want to hear from you.

It should be noted that this is a non-rotational post and that the Non-Automated Section currently only operates during core hours Monday - Friday. These working arrangements may be subject to future review.

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced suitably qualified HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist to join a dynamic workforce.

Working as part of the team you will contribute to the provision and further development of a high-quality specialist diagnostic service.

You must be able to work on your own initiative demonstrating good interpersonal and communication skills. You will support the Senior Biomedical Scientists responsible for the day-to-day organisation of the laboratory. You will prioritise work and re-direct staff accordingly. Your duties will involve validating analytical data prior to reporting. calibrating, operating, and maintaining complex analytical equipment and regularly reviewing internal quality control and external quality assurance data trends, taking action as appropriate. You will write and review standard operating procedures and train all grades of staff. You will be directly involved in service development and modernisation.

The department is fully UKAS accredited and is also accredited by the HCPC/IBMS as a training laboratory. This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join a very busy department dedicated to providing the highest quality, patient centred service.

We will consider and support trainee BMS's who are close to completing their registration portfolio and are close to verification. Evidence of continual professional development (CPD) will be expected to be demonstrated at interview.
