An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Occupational Therapist to join the North West Assistive Technology (NWAT) Team based within Liverpool University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust - Aintree site.
NWAT is a specialist NHS Regional Service providing assistive technology, advice and support to patients with complex needs, to enable them to retain greater independence in their place of residence.
It serves a population of almost 7 million people living in the Greater Manchester, Cheshire and Merseyside, Lancashire and South Cumbria Region.
The service provides environmental control equipment to enable patients with complex needs to enhance their independence within their home environment, which may include the installation of technology to access remote controls telephones, bed controls, intercoms sockets and entertainment equipment.
This post requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a commitment to effective team working and skill sharing. The post holder will have experience working with patients with complex neurological presentations and have an active interest in Technology.
The successful candidate will demonstrate leadership qualities; and be able to evidence supporting staff/student development. There will be opportunity to contribute to service developments.
You will receive regular supervision/appraisal and have access to specialist training and learning opportunities in order to support your career development in this specialist field.
Main duties of the job
To provide a high standard of Occupational Therapy service to patients with complex needs to facilitate the provision of appropriate equipment and to enhance independence.
To assist in clinically managing, training and supervising visiting staff grade Occupational Therapists, students, assistants and work experience students.

Job responsibilities
- To undertake occupational therapy assessment, through shared decision making develop a clinical treatment plan for Environmental control and computer access with client, carer and MDT and implement agreed treatment plans, evaluate care delivery according to health care needs for routine and complex patients.
- To advise, assist and educate staff grade Occupational Therapists and Student Occupational Therapists in the management of routine patients.
- To ensure effective communication with patients, carers and all other health and social care professionals regarding all aspects of patient care. This will include patients who may have difficulty in understanding or communicating.
- To organise and participate in teaching and advice sessions with patients, carers and other health care professionals to ensure best provision of patient care.
- Represent the Occupational Therapy Service at multi-disciplinary meetings to ensure the delivery of a co-ordinated multi-disciplinary service.
- To carry out home assessments within the patients usual place of residence. Liaising with family, carers and multi-disciplinary team and support team within the community.
- To make recommendations based on Occupational Therapy clinical reasoning , problem solving and risk assessment, including priority function risk assessments and contributing to equipment mounting risk assessments, in order to maintain the patients functional abilities and quality of life within the community.
- To liaise with Statutory and Voluntary agencies regarding Social Care and Housing, to provide equipment , recommend home adaptations to support Independent Living skills. To complete necessary documentation required by Statutory and Voluntary agencies.
