Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within our award winning Asthma Team. We are seeking to recruit a Band 7 Nurse Specialist to join the existing team. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with teams within the Respiratory Directorate and the Emergency Department on the Royal site of the new Liverpool University Hospitals Foundation Trust.The team plays a pivotal role ensuring all our Asthma patients receive Gold Standard Care. The team liaises very closely with all Allied Health Professionals within the Trust and the community and has close links with AED (emergency ground floor).A vital component of this role, is to facilitate education and training packages, deliver sessions within the care group, but will also be expected to present at national conferences to raise the profile of the excellent service that is provided.

It is essential that the successful candidate has a good working knowledge of Respiratory Medicine and the role of the team. You will need to be passionate about Asthma and strive for improvement and innovation. You will be required to be an excellent communicator that works well independently and as part of a team.

Candidates will be expected to have (or be working towards) relevant Masters Level Study which includes a minimum of Clinical Examination and Diagnostics and Non-Medical Prescribing (V300) qualification. This post is for a Asthma Clinical Nurse Specialist; however, we will consider a trainee position for the right candidate as a Band 7 Annex U 21, with the opportunity to complete specialist qualifications required within an allocated time frame. To be considered for a trainee position you will be an established Registered Nurse with experience of working at Band 5 or above with a minimum of 5 years clinical experience and an interest in Respiratory and Asthma, this should also include evidence of continuing professional development at Level 6or above.

Job responsibilities

Assessment of patients attending the site with asthma symptoms in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Assessing inhaler technique and providing education to improve patient inhaler technique.

Recommending treatment changes/prescription changes to improve inhaler technique.

Monitoring symptom reports to evaluate outcomes of recommended treatment changes.

Providing patient education to increase insight into their condition and to aid adherence to provided treatments.

Compiling personalised asthma action plans.

Recognising the critically ill patient and treating accordingly.

Recognising own limitations, and escalating concerns to senior staff promptly.

Communicating with GP services to ensure up to date treatment plans are adhered to in the community.

Communicating with GP services about patient enquires and potential escalation in treatments.
