Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a well-motivated, dynamic, and experienced Physiotherapist to join the Major Trauma Centre Therapy Team.

Aintree Major Trauma Centre has been providing specialist life and limb-saving treatment for patients across Merseyside, Cheshire and the Isle of Man since 2012.

The therapy team provide acute specialist care on both the Major Trauma Ward and Critical Care, for patients who have experienced polytraumatic injuries. These can include, orthopaedic injuries, brain and spine trauma, chest trauma and amputations. As well as complex medical needs, Major Trauma patients can present with complex social and mental health needs, so you will work as part of a wider MDT including consultants, nurses, psychologists, pharmacists, MHLT and social services.

The role requires excellent interpersonal, organisational and communication skills and a commitment to effective multidisciplinary team working and skill sharing. An ability to demonstrate assertion, flexibility and creativity with assessment and treatment planning and methods of service delivery are essential in this clinical environment.

Competencies in the management of respiratory and tracheostomised patients is essential for this position.

Main duties of the job

To undertake comprehensive clinical assessment, treatment and discharge planning for polytrauma patients with complex medical, musculoskeletal, and neurological conditions including traumatic brain and spinal injuries.

Lead on respiratory management of patients and tracheostomy weaning where indicated.

Undertake and support the Team with Complex Discharge Planning

Support an existing Band 7 Therapists in leading a Major Trauma Therapy Team consisting of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, TAs and APs, providing clinical and pastoral supervision and completing annual appraisals.

Participate in the clinical coordination role for the team.

Take an active role in audit/service improvement to enhance patient care.

You will contribute to the holistic care of the patient including supporting board rounds, MDT meetings, case conferences, and best interest meetings relating to discharge.

Senior oversight of a therapy team including aspects such as performance reporting, sickness management, supervision, safety and governance and clinical incident reporting.

Participation in national audit, research and personal and staff development.

Therapy Representation at local ward-based meetings, board rounds and relevant external meetings ie Cheshire and Mersey Network, The Walton Centre Hospital
