Job summary

An exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Alcohol Specialist Nurse is available. The alcohol specialist nurse team based with Liverpool University Hospital NHS Trust is an integral part of the department of gastroenterology as part of Liverpool Community Alcohol Service (LCAS).

You will be employed by Liverpool University Foundation Trust and based both in the acute and community settings. Here at the Royal we provide nurse-led out-patient services to the local population, and provide support and liaison to our community partners, and referral to specialist services. This is a post that would suit a Registered Nurse with at least 2 years experience of working in an acute hospital.

As much of the role involves assessment and treatment of alcohol-related problems with pharmacotherapy a Nurse Prescriber would be advantageous . Working with this complex patient group will require good clinical skills and a positive and caring attitude. Evidence of working autonomously is essential. The role will involve treating patients with alcohol dependence, liver disease, and cognitive impairment in nurse-led clinics across primary and secondary care. There will also be the opportunity to undertake specialist clinical procedures such as fibro scanning.

Main duties of the job

  • The Clinical Nurse Specialist will act as the clinical expert and professional resource to the multi- professional team, patients and carers within their Speciality Service.
  • The post holder will have a responsibility to develop the specialist area of practice in partnership with other members of the speciality team will work collaboratively to develop services and improve the quality of care delivered.
  • The post holder will carry responsibility for either a defined case load or offering "highly specialist service advise" this will include setting standards of care, the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care, management and education.
  • The post holder will contribute to achieving the objectives of the clinical service group / speciality corporate objectives and work within the clinical governance framework.
  • This will be achieved through the core dimensions of the role, clinical practice, leadership, acting as the patient advocate and through audit and education.
