Job summary

An exciting opportunity for a band 5 nurse to join a dynamic, motivated team of renal nurses who deliver a high standard of specialist care to inpatients and outpatients.

You will be working in a friendly and supportive environment providing comprehensive care and support to patients and relatives.

We currently have 25 stations running throughout the day , providing care for more than 150 patients per week.

These posts are for qualified nurses who are interested in pursuing and developing a career within renal dialysis nursing.

As a Staff Nurse you will have preferably worked in an acute setting for a minimum of 6 - 12 months, and therefore have experience in acute patient care. This is an ideal opportunity for you to develop your knowledge and clinical skills in Haemodialysis nursing. You will be supported and trained under the supervision of our experienced and dedicated renal team.

Main duties of the job

This role has technical and caring aspects and you will be involved in preparing and programming dialysis machines and related equipment whilst caring for and assessing patients who are undergoing chronic dialysis.

Job responsibilities

As a part of your role you will be required to;

  • Set up dialysis machine according to patient prescription, assess patients before dialysis.
  • Calculate and set dialysis prescription on the dialysis machine. Use Standard ANTT technique as per Trust protocol.
  • Access vascular access and commenced dialysis treatment
  • Deliver prescribed IV medication via dialysis machine
  • Monitor patients during treatment
  • Troubleshoot any machine alarms during treatment
  • Discontinue and disconnect patient at end of dialysis
  • Document treatment on CyberREN and other Trust systems
  • Clean dialysis area as per Trust protocol
  • Collect monthly blood samples
  • Check and report results of monthly blood samples
  • Work with members of the MDT such as renal dietician.
  • Audit patient outcomes monthly and discuss with patient and MDT

  • Diploma in Nursing

  • Mentorship/teaching qualification

Experience

  • Evidence of working with students
