Therapeutic Assistant. ASC Assessment Pathway

Job summary

To assist the multi-disciplinary ASC Assessment Pathway (Autism Spectrum Condition) to provide quality Autism assessment and therapeutic services to children and young people. Working with support systems to gather multi-agency assessment information to contribute to multi-agency diagnostic panel decisions.

Main duties of the job

  • To support and assist in providing assessment relating to ASC diagnosis under the clinical supervision of a qualified staff, working independently according to a plan agreed with a qualified staff and within the overall framework of the teams policies and procedures.
  • Under the guidance of the Clinical staff (Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Art Therapy and SALT) to assist with the audit and evaluation activities of the CAMHS ASC Pathway.
  • To work within the policies of Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, and the codes of conduct and professional guidelines laid down by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC); the British Psychological Society (BPS) and its Division of Clinical Psychology.

Job responsibilities

  • To undertake protocol based work in an environment that may be highly emotive and presents barriers to understanding/acceptance.
  • To undertake assessments with individual clients and their support networks (these will include Specialist Autism Assessments)
  • To carry out structured observations of clients across settings (i.e. clinic, school, home and community based settings).
  • Attend and contribute to MDT discussion and Multi-agency ASC panel meetings.
  • To provide support to clinical colleagues by undertaking data collection, the production of reports and summaries and use of computer packages for the processing and analysis of reports and data (e.g. MS Word and Excel).
  • To request, search for and obtain books, journal articles and references for evidence based practice for individual use and other staff within the department, as required.
  • To assist with the research related to the audit and evaluation activities of the CAMHS Team in line with the Departmental, Trust and Government policies, encouraging the continuous improvement of service quality.
  • To receive supervision both clinical and managerial.
  • To develop skills and competencies that assist in the delivery of current duties.
  • To maintain an up to date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and practices in relation to working within CAMHS, their families and carers.
  • To undertake any other duties of a similar nature consistent with the responsibilities of this post in order to provide a quality service within the multi-agency ASC pathway.
