We provide clinical services to the pan Black Country population of adults with learning disabilities, continually evolving in line with the Transforming Care Programme.
As an Applied Psychologist or Psychological Therapist based with the Wolverhampton Community Learning Disability Team you will work alongside an experienced MDT and supportive psychology colleagues to deliver high quality, person centred and evidence based services with the aim of achieving positive life outcomes for individuals.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated clinician who ideally has experience in working with adults with a learning disability. The successful candidate for this varied and dynamic role will be delivering 1:1 assessments and interventions for individuals with learning disabilities. In addition, you will be leading on the development, coordination and delivery of a programme of CBT informed group psychological intervention to Black Country citizen's accessing learning disability services. The role is diverse and rewarding with excellent cross division support.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be part of a team committed to MDT working with people with learning disabilities. You will hold an individual caseload for delivering 1:1 interventions within the Wolverhampton locality, working systemically in line with families and carers where appropriate. With support from psychology and MDT colleagues you will lead on developing, delivering and evaluating a Division wide group programme to ensure citizens with a learning disability have appropriate access to evidence based psychological therapy. You will be skilled in both individual and group work adapted to match the different intellectual & emotional abilities within the client group.
The team provides a full range of assessments, interventions, support, training and advice to individuals themselves, their families and paid carers and the network of multi-agency stakeholders who are involved in the care and support of people experiencing complex behavioural and/or emotional distress. A core member of the Wolves CLDT, you will bring experience combining the best of evidence based clinical assessment & formulation with client centred therapeutic interventions. You will work with other members of the multi-disciplinary team and with colleagues from other services, providing expertise in psychological formulation for people with learning disability and mental health needs and their families/ carers.

Guided by recovery principles, the teams maintain close liaison and pathways with a range of external agencies including social support accommodation services and social care agencies across the region in order to ensure that people with a learning disability and mental health and/or behavioural distress needs are also well supported by the full range of services and opportunities that meet their whole life person centred needs and aspirations.
There are opportunities to develop new and existing group programmes. The post-holder support in training/supervising others, including practitioners & trainees working within the team at different times.
Our Division maintains good links with the full range of Doctoral Psychology courses at the Universities of Birmingham, Coventry and Warwick and Wolverhampton.
Key staff are closely involved with Research and Innovation. CPD and supervision for all grades of staff is highly valued. Psychological professionals are thoroughly integrated at all levels in the quality, governance and service development infrastructure of the Trust.
