Who are we?

Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (BCHFT) is committed to the provision of 24 hour Mental Health Liaison Service (MHLS) that responds in a timely and effective way to meet the mental health needs of people aged 18 years and above who present to Acute Hospitals; Walsall Manor Hospital, New Cross Hospital, Russell Hall Hospital and Midland Metropolitan University Hospital.

The Multi-disciplinary team provide advice and where clinically indicated a first line bio-psychosocial assessment where there are concerns regarding mental illness and associated risks of those presenting with a mental health crisis. The team also provide time limited liaison follow up when needed for acute hospital inpatients for individuals presenting with more complex and enduring mental health needs as we provide a consultative/ advisory role to professional colleagues on clinical issues related to mental health needs.

We have the following position locations available -

Walsall there are 2 posts and the team are based at Dorothy Pattison Hospital providing a service to Walsall Manor Hospital

Wolverhampton there are 2 posts and the team are based at New Cross Hospital

Dudley there is 1 post and the team is based at Bushey Fields Hospital providing a service to Russell Hall Hospital

The MHLS experiences a high number of referrals, which can be complex and challenging. This provides an excellent opportunity to enhance clinical practice, develop your assessment skills, and risk formulation completing a safe management plan and discharge in accordance with the needs and risks of the patient. There is an opportunity to provide high quality mental health nursing and psychiatric care in an acute hospital environment.

A comprehensive induction is provided and opportunities to work alongside the MDT, with in house training and links to the local Universities.

An ability to develop links with our primary and secondary mental health services and voluntary/statutory agencies is essential component of the role.

You will contribute to the ongoing development of the Mental Health Liaison Service currently offered to the acute hospitals and in line with NICE guidelines/Core 24
