Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and forward thinking OT who can work flexibly. The post holder will join our LD-CAMHS team supporting children and young people with moderate to severe learning disability who are experiencing a range of mental health needs/ behaviours of concern, and their families.
We are particularly interested in practitioners who are experienced in assessing and identifying strategies to help support young people with their sensory profiles. In addition to providing occupational therapy assessment and treatment interventions there will be an expectation that the post holder use evidence based mental health interventions and participate in the teams challenging behaviour intervention to ensure variety and the ability to practice fully as a CAMHS practitioner.
The post holder will work with a dedicated and supportive multi-disciplinary team made up of nursing, psychiatry and psychology and will accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload.
Main duties of the job
- The post holder will work within specialist Learning Disability CAMHS with a remit to assess and treat children and young people (up to their 18th birthday) with mental health or behavioural needs who have been referred to the service and identified as having a learning disability.
- To undertake mental health assessments of patients referred to Learning Disabilities - CAMHS, with complex problems/needs, including those with a psychiatric diagnosis or with co-morbidity/dual diagnosis.
- To manage a defined caseload, planning and completing care and ensuring that other professionals are kept informed of any changes to the clients care. This should be done in partnership with the client and the family.
- To provide evidence based care packages.
- To undertake appropriate risk assessments for clients and ensure appropriate safeguards are implemented to reduce or alleviate any identified risk.
