Job summary

We are seeking to appoint enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our passionate and driven team, who have a particular interest in working with older adults experiencing difficulties with their mental health, and at times some frailty issues.

In Walsall we are developing all areas of our Mental Health Services for Older People and, in particular, our in-patient services. These services are based at Bloxwich Hospital where we have two wards providing assessment and treatment for older adults suffering from organic and functional illness.

The successful candidate will contribute to the service already being delivered and will participate in the development and delivery of activities to meet the individual needs of service users, providing social and recreational/diversional activities to the in-patient services.

Our service offers a forward-looking, multi-disciplinary environment which supports and encourages ongoing professional development and clinical supervision, as well as a strong commitment to clinical governance.

Main duties of the job

? To assist in basic care and assessment of the patient as support to, andunder the supervision of, a registered nurse/senior support staff.

? To follow individualised care and therapeutic programmes for patients under the instruction of the nursing staff/senior support staff.

? To provide support to patients with their personal care.

? To be aware of the patients clinical condition and life storyto ensure the care and comfort of clients.

? To promote communications and act as an advocate for patients who have experienced difficulty in communicating.

? By communicating any observations of patients behaviours to the nurse-in-charge during periods of duty.

? To work with all members of the multi-disciplinary team to promote quality care.

? Work in collaboration with the patient, involving them at all times with their care.

? To ensure the continuation of good working relationships between staff and patients within the unit.

? To support the qualified staff in the admission and discharge procedure.

To support staff in promoting recreation/leisure amongst patients.

? To contribute to the promotion of patients education and well-being.

? To monitor and encourage and record patients in their consumption of food and drink.

? To assist in the maintenance of a safe environment.

? To participate in the observation and engagement of patients at risk.? To promote and maintain beneficial relationships between relatives/patients and carers in liaison with other appropriate agencies.

About us

Linden Ward is a 10 bedded dementia assessment ward. We are an enthusiastic, friendly and approachable team who have a passion for delivering high quality patient care to patients living with dementia. The Trust is currently heavily investing in Older Adult Urgent Care; we are currently having a purpose built, evidence based unit developed on Dorothy Pattison Hospital site for us to move to sometime in 2024
