Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Arts Psychotherapist/Arts Therapist with experience in child and adolescent mental health to join the diverse multidisciplinary team at Sandwell CAMHS.

We are seeking a suitable candidate who can bring skills, experience and enthusiasm to meet the needs of children/ young people with complex mental health needs.

The candidates need to be appropriately qualified as art therapists and registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) or an equivalent body, and they should adhere to the relevant code of ethics and practice.

This is an exciting time to join Sandwell CAMHS. This year, we are partnering with the charity Hospital Rooms to transform our environment. There are ongoing creative workshops and projects for children, young people, and families to engage with our service.

Main duties of the job

We have been very impressed with the existing Art Therapists we have in our teams and have witnessed how powerful the narrative can be through creative approaches. This has supported children and young people who struggle with talking therapies and need a different way to express themselves.

The post-holder will be joining a supportive and forward-thinking team who pride themselves on their commitment to the continual development and improvement of patient care. Clinical and leadership supervision, and continuing professional development, are highly valued. Additionally, there are opportunities to join peer supervision and other groups.

Our existing Art Therapist team consists of a senior art psychotherapist, a Band 6 art therapist and three other creative therapists working across our constellation model in Sandwell. There are Creative Therapists Peer Supervision and Psychodynamic Case Discussion running on a regular basis.

Main duties of the job:

Assessment and Art Therapy Interventions: Conduct assessments and provide art therapy interventions for children and adolescents with a broad spectrum of mental health needs and risks. This includes both individual and group therapy sessions.

Generic Assessments: As a Core CAMHS Clinician, provide generic assessments for children, young people, and their parents/carers.

About us

Our CAMHS Service is a multidisciplinary team comprising psychologists, specialist nurses, systemic, child and arts psychotherapists, music and play therapists, occupational therapists, social workers, and psychiatrists. Our passionate team is dedicated to working with children, young people, and their families to develop creative solutions that enhance their mental health.

The BCHFT CAMHS Service currently operates across four geographical areas: Sandwell, Wolverhampton, Dudley, and Walsall, with contracts in each of these regions. Each team includes a specialist learning disability unit focused on children and young people with moderate to severe learning disabilities, as well as dedicated Children and Young People in Care Teams.
