Would you like to gain experience and develop your potential within the Health Visiting Service?

We are able to offer a community staff nurse role to an enthusiastic Band 5 Registered Nurse on Part 1 of the NMC register (Midwifery, Child, Adult, Mental Health or Learning Disability branch) who have a genuine interest in the health and wellbeing of Children and Families. You will work within a skill mixed Health Visiting Community Team in the Dudley Borough.

It is essential that the post holders will have, and be able to show written evidence of Maths and English at GCSE level at C or equivalent, and have evidence that they have achieved a 1stDegree in a relevant area of health and social care, along with the relevant skills and experience to support us in providing a place where we can achievehealthier, happy lives.

They will need to hold a valid UK driving license and have access to a car with relevant insurance.

Main duties of the job

There are five Health Visiting teams in various locations within Dudley who are all high achieving, supportive and dynamic and they are looking to recruit a Band 5 Nurse to join their existing teams. Prospective candidates do not need previous experience of community working, but will expected to have a passion for making a difference to the lives of pre-school children and their families. You will need to have an understanding of the public health role in order to support the delivery of the 0-5 years Healthy Child Programme.

The successful candidates will need to be flexible team players who are able to demonstrate a willingness to support and implement change. You will be required to work in partnership with children and families in addition to other agencies and multi-disciplinary teams, to support the delivery of evidenced based programs of care, in line with the Healthy Child Programme.

Job Purpose

The post-holder will work as a member of the Health Visiting Service, working in partnership with families to deliver appropriately delegated elements of the Healthy Child Programme (Department of Health 2009). The individual will support the delivery of evidence based programmes of care in order to provide a quality service which aims to improve health outcomes for children aged 0-19 years.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • To undertake Healthy Child Programme developmental assessments as directed by the named or delegating Health Visitor, ensuring prompt feedback and escalation of concerns as required.
  • To identify health needs of children and families and in agreement with the Health Visitor plan, deliver and review appropriate evidence-based interventions in line with the Standard Operating Procedures and Pathways to improve health outcomes.
  • To undertake home visits in line with BCHCT Lone Working Policy and under the direction of the Health Visitor.
  • To plan, organise and run well baby clinics in a variety of settings such as Childrens Centres, Health Centres, GP Surgeries to support the health and development of children.
  • To support families through challenging situations such as illness or bereavement under the direction of the Health Visitor.
  • To follow up Accident & Emergency attendances offering appropriate advice and support to families.
  • To participate in the planning, delivery and evaluation of evidence-based health promotion activities for individuals, families and communities.
  • To follow local and national policies and procedures regarding safeguarding children and vulnerable adults, identifying families with safeguarding concerns and escalating to the Health Visitor to agree a plan of action.
  • To support the Health Visiting Team in delivering Early Help Interventions and to participate in multi-agency working processes such as Team Around the Family (TAF) meetings under the supervision of a health visitor.
  • To participate in and promote the childhood immunisation programme.
  • To promote breastfeeding in line with BCHCT Policy and to participate in BFI Audits and Practical Skills Assessments as required.

  • To participate in safeguarding supervision, clinical supervision and peer support to ensure safe and effective practice.
